School Bus Driver Falls Asleep Behind Wheel: 'Get Off At Next Stop' Parents Text To Frightened Kids

Pictures of a bus driver nodding off in the rear-view mirror were taken by a few of the scared kids riding on his bus. The kids called and texted their parents, who were waiting for their arrival at home. Many of the parents texted or phoned back similar directions to their kids on the school bus, which was, “get off at the next stop.” The young traumatized passengers heeded the urgent advice from their parents and exited the bus at the very next stop. When the bus started to swerve the kids looked up to see the bus driver’s eyes closed and the text messages went out to parents, who called the police. It was about 3:40 p.m. when the police in Shelton, Connecticut, received calls about a bus driver nodding off behind the wheel and driving erratically with children on the bus. Pictures the school kids captured of their bus driver asleep at the wheel appear in a collage tweeted below. Shelton bus driver Paul Pixley is set to be arraigned today–accused of falling asleep while driving kids. These are Snapchat pics they took — Marissa Alter (@MarissaAlter) December 28, 2016 One of the many pictures of the bus driver sleeping posted to Snapchat has a caption that simply says, “My bus driver is sleeping,” reports the New York Daily News. As you can see in the Twitter post above another child wrote, “OMGG” and yet another child posted “Sleep” for a caption on their picture. When the police pulled Paul Pixley over driving the bus, none of the 30 student passengers were in the vehicle, as they all heeded the advice of their caregivers to just “get off.” Police determined all the kids got off at an earlier stop because the 55-year-old man kept falling asleep behind the wheel. Some of the kids called their parents and others texted to those at home waiting for them to at the end of the school day. One parent who talked to NBC Connecticut News said that her daughter was “absolutely hysterical.” Vienna DiPiave described just how frightened her daughter was during the phone call she made while riding on the bus as the driver swerved all over the road. The mom couldn’t understand a word her daughter was saying at first because she was so shaken on the bus as the driver was drifting on and off asleep. Some of the kids called or texted their parents to come and get them after getting off the bus at a stop that wasn’t their normal after school drop-off spot. Police arrested Pixley on 30 counts of risk of injury to a minor, second-degree breach of the peace, second-degree reckless endangerment and reckless driving, reports Channel 22 News Connecticut. He is being held on a $75,000 bond. According to Fox News, the manager of the bus company showed up on the scene to drive the bus back to the company. He said that Pixby had recently fallen asleep behind the wheel of the bus and rolled backwards into a car while at an intersection. This was only nine-days prior to this incident. The bus is equipped with a video, which provided police with the evidence needed for the charges levied against Pixby. He can be seen on the bus nodding off and at one point when a student yelled at him, in an attempt to wake him up, he yelled back “I’m not sleeping.” The children are seen being thrown from their seats at one point during this bus ride after the driver fell asleep and jammed on the brakes, reports Fox News. Police discovered that Pixby had students on the bus when he fell asleep in the driver’s seat 10-times in the matter of an hour and a half on December 16, the day police pulled him over. He had done a few runs that day with children from the high school and middle school. The video showed also showed how on that same day Pixley was driving an empty bus on his way to pick up students. He pulled the empty bus over to the side of the road and then he unbuckled his seat belt and exited his seat. He stands facing the back of the bus as if people were there and starts yelling inside the bus, which was void of all passengers. The school bus driver who feel asleep at the wheel while driving kids home from school revealed he was on a dosage of 80 mg. of methadone that he gets from a local clinic. He told police that he didn’t offer this information to the bus company he worked for because “they didn’t ask.” Methadone is a medication that is used for treating pain or for treating an addiction and it can cause drowsiness. (AP Photo/Steve Legge) Pixby admitted to taking 80 mgs of methadone, a drug, which he gets from a local methadone clinic. He did not put this information on his job application for the bus company because “they didn’t ask.” The judge was asked by Pixby’s attorney, Jonathan Gable, that he be released under a promise to appear. The judge refused this request, citing the seriousness of the charges he is facing. During his hearing the bus driver requested to speak, but the judge denied his request. The judge also forbid Pixby to drive a bus while this case is pending, ordered an evaluation for substance abuse, and kept Pixby on the $75,000 bond originally set on the day of his arrest. His next appearance in court is slated for January 18, 2017. [Featured Image: AP Photo/Jae C. Hong]

Parents Target Hatchimals: Firstly Hatchimals Won't Hatch – Now They 'Curse Like Sailors'

This year’s hottest Christmas toys were supposed to be Hatchimals. The cute Hatchimals come packaged as an egg, and by tapping, flipping, and stroking the egg it should hatch to reveal one of a range of Hatchimals. As is often the case, at this time of year, one toy becomes the “must have” toy, and this year the target was Hatchimals. The toys became so scarce that makers Spin Master released a statement on their website begging parents not to pay inflated prices to resellers. “The consumer response to Hatchimals has been extraordinary, exceeding all expectations. This is a special season and we don’t want anyone to be disappointed, nor do we support inflated prices from non-authorized resellers. While additional product will hit retail shelves in December, we anticipate this inventory will also sell out quickly. We have increased production and a whole new batch of Hatchimals will be ready to hatch in early 2017.” As always seems to be the case, many parents were unable to source a Hatchimal for their child’s Christmas stocking. It may be disappointing to be unable to find your target Hatchimal, but how much bigger is the disappointment when you get your Hatchimal, only to find that your Hatchimal won’t hatch. Some #Hatchimals hatching into duds…or not hatching at all — WNCN (@WNCN) December 28, 2016 Sadly, that was exactly the experience that many parents faced when they found that the coveted Hatchimals wouldn’t hatch. NBC called Hatchimals a “lame duck” gift after many parents reported that Hatchimals left their kids heartbroken because they simply didn’t do what they should. Dozens of parents contacted NBC to complain about the Hatchimals they had bought. “One woman, named Megan, said two of the five Hatchimals her family purchased didn’t work.” “Beth Royals said her family spent seven hours on Christmas Day trying to get the bird to hatch out of its shell. Eventually they just broke the shell themselves.” There were so many complaints about Hatchimals not hatching that the makers had to release a statement apologizing for the defective Hatchimals. “Unfortunately, with toys that incorporate a high level of technology, there are also some cases where the product may not perform as expected. We are committed to doing everything possible to resolve these issues.” Customers with defective Hatchimals are asked to contact Spin Maker’s customer care line. So, What’s All This About Hatchimals Cursing And Swearing? Many people will remember that, back in the late 1990’s the “Furby” was the hot Christmas toy. Like Hatchimals, children hatched their Furby and then had to spend time looking after it. If your Furby was to survive it had to be given food, drink and attention. The Furby also learned to speak by repeating phrases that were spoken to it. Many Furby’s were confiscated after they were taught to repeat swear words. (Image by Gregory Bull/AP) It seems that Hatchimals, when they do work, have taken the learning of language a stage further. According to Mashable, the Hatchimals have learned to curse all by themselves. Specifically, parents claim, the toy says “F..k me,” when it goes into sleep mode. According to CTV News in Canada parents claim their child’s new Hatchimal toy is spouting swear words, amid an otherwise unintelligible stream of gibberish. Father, Nick Galego, managed to grab a coveted Hatchimal as a Christmas present for his son, but just a few days later he claims that “I’m pretty sure it says ‘f— me.’” The claims that Hatchimals are cursing seems to have put the makers on the back foot again. Spin Master released a statement assuring parents that Hatchimals are not programed to curse. “Hatchimals speak their own language made up of random sounds.” “We can assure you that the Hatchimal is not saying anything inappropriate. The one in the video appears to be sleeping.” With claims that Hatchimals don’t work and that they are “swearing like sailors” it seems that some children found more than they expected under this year’s Christmas tree. Police: Virginia Mom Beat Child With Baseball Bat For Telling On Her

A Virginia mom has been arrested, after authorities say she physically assaulted her 11-year-old daughter with an aluminum baseball bat. WTKR News reports that 35-year-old Andrea Gehring allegedly beat the little girl for an absolutely shocking reason. The violent incident reportedly took place at the end of November, but the investigation has led to details being released to media sources nearly an entire month later. Police say the late-November incident ended in the unnamed 11-year-old child with numerous injuries — including broken bones. That’s not the only shocking detail in this case. Authorities say the Virginia mom violently assaulted her daughter, because the little girl supposedly “told on her” for cheating on her boyfriend. The child reportedly told her mother’s boyfriend that she had been out with other men. This reportedly infuriated Gehring, who is accused of using a baseball bat to brutally beat the child. It’s known that the little girl told police what happened to her, but it’s not known if the Virginia mom sought medical attention for her child after beating her, or if someone else called the police. What is being reported, however, is that 35-year-old Andrea Gehring reportedly told police that her 11-year-old daughter got her injuries by falling into a dollhouse. #RyanLawrence killed his 2 yr old baby girl. #Femicide #DomesticViolence #Beast — Ginger Henderson???? Burke Ramsey, Brother Of JonBenet, Files $750 Million Suit Against CBS For Hinting He Murdered Her

The older brother of child beauty queen JonBenet Ramsey has once again followed through on his word to sue CBS for defamation. On Wednesday, 29-year-old Burke Ramsey filed a $750 million lawsuit against the TV network for airing The Case of JonBenét Ramsey, a special program comprised to note the 20th anniversary of her death, the Daily Mail reports. The legal maneuver comes less than two months after Ramsey first filed suit against Dr. Werner Spitz, a crime expert who appeared and shared his expertise on the show, and two days after the actual two-decade mark of JonBenet’s December 1996 passing. In the special, which first aired in September of this year, several crime scene investigators, including Spitz, allude to the possibility that Burke, then 9, could have been the person who killed his baby sister. Happy anniversary of the beauty queen,#JonBenetRamsey.Let’s give her our courtesy and fill Twitter w/#JonBenetRamsey! — Batgirl_at_the_Disco (@Emma3015084) December 26, 2016 “If you really, really use your free time to think about this case,” Spitz said during the program, “you cannot come to a different conclusion.” Along with the CBS Corporation and Spitz, Burke also names Critical Content LLC, the production company behind The Case of JonBenet Ramsey, as well as consultants Jim Clemente, Laura Richards, Jim Kolar, James Fitzgerald, Stanley Burke, and Henry Lee in the suit. He alleges that their involvement ultimately caused his reputation “permanent damage” due to the “false accusation that he killed his sister.” Earlier this month, Spitz’s counsel responded to Burke’s initial $150 million claim in a Michigan courtroom, stating that their client’s comments were nothing more than speculation. “This lawsuit arises from the public discussion about theories involving one of the major unsolved crimes of the 20th Century,” Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn LLP relayed, as noted by People. “Because the First Amendment protects this speech on a matter of immense public concern, Plaintiff Burke Ramsey’s lawsuit should be dismissed.” Additionally, Spitz’s attorneys argued that ongoing public interest in the two-decade old case will always bring forth opinions from onlookers. “[The murder of JonBenét Ramsey is] a subject of significant public interest and controversy,” they said. “Dr. Spitz expressed his own view, as the First Amendment affords him the right to do, but his speculations, even if firmly held and confidently expressed, are not statements of fact.” Early this September, the same month The Case of JonBenét Ramsey debuted, Burke sat down with television personality Dr. Phil McGraw in an interview that many believed caused more harm than good. Appearing at times to be noticeably uncomfortable and with an obvious smirk on his face, most viewers walked away from the three-part special wondering if there was more to the story than Burke was willing to share. McGraw tried his best to dispel that belief to his audience during taping. excellent. #msm #media @cbsnews @cbstweet @cbsthismorning #cbs i hope he shuts @cbs down. that would be awesome. — America Revived (@Twitturriffic) December 29, 2016 “This is anxiety,” he explained. “He’s socially uncomfortable, I’ve seen it a lot. I’ve spent a lot of time with him over the last several months, and you have to understand, when this happened he was plucked out because media was all over them.” Burke, meanwhile, reaffirmed his innocence and remarked that he was simply ready to go public with his experience. “For a long time, the media basically made [my family’s] lives crazy,” he acknowledged. “Seeing that as a little kid, it’s just kind of chaotic nightmare. It’s the 20th anniversary, and apparently still a lot of attention around it. [I just wanted] to honor her memory by doing this [interview].” JonBenet and Burke Ramsey’s mother, Patsy Ramsey, succumbed to ovarian cancer in 2006. Their father, John Bennett Ramsey, remarried in 2011. JonBenet’s murder is still unsolved. CBS has yet to respond to either suit. [Featured Image from CBS/Yahoo! TV]

Criticism Of Israeli Settlements Means War?

In a bold move, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has seemingly declared that criticism of Israel is an act of war. Haaretz reports that Netanyahu had notified New Zealand’s ambassador to Israel, Jonathan Curr, that if a planned motion sponsored by New Zealand, along with Senegal, Malaysia, and Venezuela, came to a vote, Israel would close its embassy in Wellington. Three hours later he called New Zealand’s foreign minister, Murray McCully, and notified him that going through with the resolution “will be a declaration of war. It will rupture the relations and there will be consequences.” (emphasis added) Murray McCully, warned by Benjamin Netanyahu that the vote would mean war with Israel. [Image by Hannah Peters/Getty Images] Later that day, December 23, the United Nations Security Council voted on and passed that resolution demanding that Israel stop all settlement activities in occupied Palestinian territories. Occupied territories include Gaza, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem. As reported by the New York Times, the United States also broke a tradition reaching back decades where the United States vetoes any Security Council resolution put forth against Israel. The resolution also specifies that the 1967 boundaries are still in effect unless they are changed through negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians. What is often forgotten by Americans is that Israel has been at war with Palestine in a conflict which will turn 50 next year. The conflict has never been resolved and it is the reason why there is a periodic drive for peace talks between the Israeli government and Palestine, through the Palestinian Authority, presumed to be the legitimate government of Palestinians. It is also why these settlements, as well as other actions such as displacing preexisting populations, are considered war crimes under international law. The International Committee of the Red Cross explains that the Fourth Geneva Convention made such actions illegal under international law. Israel’s actions have gone far beyond simply settling in the territories it occupies under a state of war. Amnesty International released a report in 2009 which detailed several troubling issues related to the Israeli settlements and water use. While the majority of the population in the occupied territories remain Palestinian, 80% of the water is redirected to Israeli settlers and the Palestinian population is prevented from creating a working water infrastructure to handle the remaining 20% of the water, enough to only provide 70 of the recommended 100 liters per person for daily use. The Los Angeles Times had reported in September that Netanyahu had taken the radical step of stating that opposition to Israel’s illegal settlements constituted advocating for ethnic cleansing of Jews. Quite to the contrary, Israel’s policies in the territories it is still at war with constitutes ethnic cleansing and its settlements which strip the occupied population of sufficient water is part of that cleansing. Now, three months later, Israel is apparently, in Netanyahu’s mind, in a defensive war against New Zealand which has simply pushed for international condemnation of Israel’s war crimes. Such rhetoric from Israel is not surprising given the nature of its leadership since its founding in 1948. In that year, several prominent American Jews, including Albert Einstein, had written a letter to the New York Times warning of Menachem Begin and his Freedom Party. The letter details how the Freedom Party had engaged in terrorism against the Palestinian population, committed war crimes, and was a fascist party. Menachem Begin, accused of fascism by Einstein et al. [Image by Max Nash/AP Images] “Within the Jewish community they have preached an admixture of ultranationalism, religious mysticism, and racial superiority. Like other Fascist parties they have been used to break strikes, and have themselves pressed for the destruction of free trade unions. In their stead they have proposed corporate unions on the Italian Fascist model.” The party joined with several other right-wing parties in 1973 in Israel to form the Likud Party, the party of Benjamin Netanyahu. Begin, himself, organized the merger and was Prime Minister of Israel under the Likud Party from 1977 to 1983. According to the Jerusalem Post, Begin was promoted by Likud in rallies as recently as 2005. Netanyahu is but another voice in Israeli fascism. The coming weeks will show what war with Israel means for nations in regions far away from Israel. Is Israel capable of actual strikes against a nation so far away or will the war take on a more diplomatic flavor? Time will tell, but it is clear that the irrational belligerence of Benjamin Netanyahu makes the denial of Israeli exceptionalism a ground whichever form this war comes in. Carrie Fisher: A Look At Her Career In Film

Carrie Fisher had no idea that Star Wars would become such a juggernaut of a movie franchise following it’s release in 1977. But then, as she described in her 2016 memoir The Princess Diarist, “this goofy little three-month hang-out with robots did something unexpected.” Star Wars became a cultural touchstone and not just a cinematic one. For good or bad, Carrie would forever be known as the princess with the iconic hairstyle and the gold bikini. Carrie achieved worldwide recognition and adoration for her role as Princess Leia Organa. It was a role that came to her early in her career and for obvious reasons it overshadowed much of her later accomplishments, but in a career spanning more than forty years, Carrie Fisher should not solely be remembered for playing the intergalactic rebel princess. Carrie Fisher was more than an actress. Born into Hollywood royalty, she was the daughter of Eddie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds, and the step-daughter of the legendary Elizabeth Taylor, all of whom had achieved glittering careers in the entertainment business. Carrie was raised in a world which would provide much fodder for her career as a writer. She brilliantly demonstrated this in the novel for which she is best known, Postcards from the Edge. It was a biting satire on the rivalry between a mother and daughter living and working in the acting industry, although Carrie denied that the plot was inspired by her relationship with her famous mother. Carrie Fisher speaking at Wizard Comic Con 2016 [Image by Daniel Boczarski/Getty Images for Wizard World] Postcards from the Edge was eventually turned into a movie, starring Meryl Streep and Shirley MacLaine. Fisher penned the script. Directed by Mike Nichols, the film received critical acclaim for its darkly comic but redemptive look at addiction and recovery in Hollywood. It also gave the audience an insight into what it was like for a young woman trying to forge her own path in the shadow of a show business mother. Interestingly, in her memoir, Unsinkable, Debbie Reynolds talked about wanting to play the role of the mother in the film, but Mike Nichols apparently told her, “you’re not right for the part”. Success as a novelist secured Carrie Fisher a respect few achieve in Hollywood. She followed up Postcards from the Edge with Surrender the Pink (1990), Delusions of Grandma (1993), and The Best Awful There Is (2004). Her talent as a writer was also much in demand as a script doctor. Fisher was often called upon to polish dialogue on various projects, such as Lethal Weapon 3 and some of the Star Wars prequels. As well as writing, Carrie also continued to act throughout her career. Often taking on secondary roles in major films and well-known TV shows, she nonetheless brought a comedic intelligence to all the parts she played. Her other well-known films included Hannah and her Sisters (1986), directed by Woody Allen, and When Harry Met Sally… (1989), directed by Rob Reiner and based on a script by Nora Ephron. Carrie Fisher attending the AMPAS 7th Governor’s Award [Image by Kevin Winter/Getty Images] But perhaps her most poignant piece of work came in the later 2000s when she wrote about her personal struggles with drug and alcohol addictions in a sardonic memoir Wishful Drinking (2008) and her last publication, The Princess Diarist (2016). In these books, Fisher explored herself as reflected by the dazzling lights of Hollywood — the good and bad. And she did it in a witty, unpretentious and unglamorous way. She was unflinchingly honest about her private demons, often writing about her flaws with brutal honesty. Not for Carrie Fisher the sanitised persona gifted by publicists and image-makers to adoring fans. Carrie Fisher’s personal life might have at times been troubled, but she was more than a princess with problems. Carrie Fisher was a genuine talent, a writer whose voice will be sincerely missed. Middle East Conflict: John Kerry Maintains Veto Was In Accordance With "US Values"

Outgoing Secretary of State, John F. Kerry has maintained that the US abstention in a UN vote banning further construction of Jewish settlements was in strict accordance with US values. Sec. Kerry said the US allowed the passage of the vote – which condemned Israel’s settlement policies – as the only way to preserve a two-state solution to the crisis because it is on the verge of being destroyed. On December 23rd, the United Nations Security Council adopted a resolution which demanded a halt to all Israeli settlements in the occupied territories following Obama administration’s refusal to veto the vote, further straining an already strained relationship between the Obama administration and Israeli PM. The resolution passed by a 14-0 vote in the absence of a veto by the US Ambassador to the UN, Samantha Powers. Every other member of the Council, including the United Kingdom, voted in support of the Resolution. Egypt drafted the Resolution and held-off under pressure from Israeli foreign policy officials but the vote was requested by New Zealand, Senegal, Malaysia, and Venezuela leading to Israel’s recall of its Ambassador to New Zealand. One of the demands of the resolution was that Israel immediately and completely cease all settlement activities in the occupied Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem In response to the vote, the Israeli government leveled criticisms against the Obama administration in what it described as the abandonment of the US’ greatest ally in the Middle East. To this, Kerry maintained that The vote in the UN was about preserving the two state solution. That’s what we were standing up for: Israel’s future as a Jewish and democratic state, living side by side in peace and security with its neighbors. That’s what we are trying to preserve, for our sake and for theirs. Israeli PM Benjamin Netanhayu [R] and Mahmoud Abbas of the Palestinian Authority at Shimon Peres’ burial in Sept. 2016. [Photo By Amos Ben Gershom/GPO Via Getty Images] He further buttressed his point with the fact that the current Obama administration recently approved a $38 billion military assistance over the course of the next ten years, larger than any military assistance signed in US-Israeli history. However, Israeli Prime Minister described Kerry’s speech as “skewed”. Like the Security Council resolution that Secretary Kerry advanced in the UN, his speech tonight was skewed against Israel. For over an hour, Kerry obsessively dealt with settlements and barely touched upon the root of the conflict — Palestinian opposition to a Jewish state in any boundaries. He also maintained that the “Israelis do not need to be lectured about the importance of peace by foreign leaders” in an apparent reference to the various sufferings that the Jewish people have experienced throughout history culminating in the Holocaust perpetrated by Nazi Germany. Other prominent political aficionados have joined in condemning the abstention. President-Elect Trump tweeted as follows We cannot continue to let Israel be treated with such total disdain and disrespect. They used to have a great friend in the U.S., but……. — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) December 28, 2016 not anymore. The beginning of the end was the horrible Iran deal, and now this (U.N.)! Stay strong Israel, January 20th is fast approaching! — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) December 28, 2016 Trump has vowed to move the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and tapped David Friedman well-known for his support of Israeli settlements, even raising money for a major Jewish settlement. He won’t be the first president to make such claims. Presidents Bush and Clinton also promised same but backed off once in office. In the same vein, House Speaker Paul Ryan not only condemned the abstention but also questioned the ‘credibility’ of Secretary Kerry to speak on the matter. After allowing this anti-Israel resolution to pass the UN, Secretary Kerry has no credibility to speak on Israeli-Palestinian peace. — Paul Ryan (@SpeakerRyan) December 28, 2016 According to an analysis by Arutz Sheva, an Israeli-based online news portal, the resolution has no mandatory effect on Israeli politics. This is because it was adopted under the sixth chapter of the UN Charter (Pacific Settlement of Disputes). Due to this, the resolution is not a law, rather a declaratory document. However, the new document is littered with phrases which have been used or inspired by Obama administration officials, including Barack Obama himself, Vice-President Joe Biden, and Secretary of State, John Kerry. What this suggests is that certain principles which were not part of previous resolutions can be seen in the tenth preambular paragraph. These include “the status quo is not sustainable” and “entrenching a one-state reality”. [Featured Image By Zach Gibson/Getty Images]

Carrie Fisher's Dog Mourns With The Rest Of The Family, Gets New Living Arrangements

Carrie Fisher’s dog, Gary, was photographed when the rest of the actress’ family gathered at her Beverly Hills home. TMZ posted an image of Fisher’s French Bulldog strolling on the lawn and the article began with, “The face on Carrie Fisher’s pooch says it all.” Gary appeared somber in the photo. He was famous for being the Star Wars‘ actress’ loyal canine companion. TMZ also reported that Carrie Fisher’s dog will get new living arrangements with the star’s daughter, Billie Lourde (Scream Queens). The announcement was made on Gary’s very own Twitter account on Wednesday. It was always in Fisher’s wishes that Billie care for Gary if anything ever happened to her. Billie also has a French Bulldog named Tina, and is best buddies with Gary on a part-time basis. In this instance, the dogs have some adjustments of their own to make to since full-time is different than part-time interaction. It was revealed in the report that if for some reason Billie can’t take care of Gary long term, Carrie Fisher’s dog will certainly remain in the family. Service dogs make great therapy companions for people suffering emotional or mental disorders. Gary was seen with Carrie Fisher almost everywhere she went, including interviews. The dog was a like a child to Carrie Fisher. He was with her on the plane when she had her deadly heart attack en route from London to LAX. The dog was by her side at UCLA Medical Center. A heartbreaking photo of Carrie Fisher’s dog is posted on his Twitter account that shows him looking out the window as if he’s peering for her, as the caption reads: “I’ll be waiting right here, Mommy.” I’ll be waiting right here mommy. #CarrieFisher @carrieffisher #princessleia — Carrie Fisher’s Dog (@Gary_TheDog) December 24, 2016 The image was posted on December 23, before she died days later. The photo reflected Gary awaiting for his mom’s return from the hospital, which never happened. Carrie Fisher’s dog is popular on social media, attracting over 53,000 followers on Twitter and over 90,000 followers on Instagram. Fisher died at the age of 60. She spent the last few years of her life enjoying the company of Gary. She brought him to red carpet events and made news when he was at the Star Wars: The Force Awakens premiere. In early 2015, Carrie Fisher said her dog was “mental” as well — light-heartedly referring to her bipolar condition. “Gary is mental also. My mother says Gary is a hooligan. Gary is like my heart,” Fisher told The Herald Tribune. “Gary is very devoted to me and that calms me down. He’s anxious when he’s away from me.” People reported that Carrie Fisher’s dog provided “vital emotional support and stability in her life.” Carrie and her daughter documented Gary’s activities and fans loved it. Carrie Fisher’s dog was chronicled as loving many of the same activities that most dogs do — “napping, snacking, dressing up and traveling are some of his preferred pastimes.” PETA recognized Carrie Fisher’s dedication to animal rights and released a statement, USA Today reports. The organization described Fisher as “an unabashed dog defender and PETA supporter.” “She may be best remembered for her iconic role as Princess Leia, but we fondly remember her for her devotion to her dog, Gary,” the statement read. State Rep. Chris Corley Arrested On Domestic Violence Charges For Allegedly Punching And Pointing Gun At Wife

A conservative South Carolina lawmaker and gun rights advocate was arrested on Monday after allegedly pointing a gun at his wife and striking her in the face. On Tuesday, Rep. Chris Corley posted a $20,000 bond for his two felony charges of first-degree domestic violence and pointing a firearm at a person. The Aiken Standard reports that police responded to the 36-year-old Republican’s home in Graniteville where his wife said Corley punched her and threatened her life while their two children were in the home. His wife told police the altercation took place after she caught him cheating. “According to police, [his wife] said Corley only stopped assaulting her because he heard kids screaming and noticed blood coming from her head.” South Carolina Rep. Corley’s wife and children fled the home to a family member’s house across the street. Corley told police that his wife attempted to punch him and scratched his forehead as he pushed her away. In 2015, CBS News reported that Corley sent Christmas cards to Republican state legislators after the flag was removed from the Statehouse earlier that year. The card suggested his fellow Republicans use the holiday as a time to ask for forgiveness of their sins after betraying the Confederate flag. “If somebody’s feelings are legitimately hurt about that Christmas card, I think that might speak more to their conscience than the content of the card,” he said at the time. Corley weighed in on South Carolina’s domestic violence problem, which has ranked as one of the nation’s deadliest states for women, and the steps he plans on taking in office. “‘The domestic violence issue in South Carolina, I don’t know if that’s something government can completely fix,’ Corley said. ‘As far as what we can do as the government, you know, stiffer mandatory penalties. I don’t know that saying you can’t have a gun because you get convicted of domestic violence, I don’t know if that’s going to stop someone from future domestic violence.’” The South Carolina Democratic Party issued a statement after Corley’s arrest saying the state must do more to fight domestic violence. “Domestic violence and abuse is not something to politicize or take lightly,” the statement said. “Today’s disturbing news reminds us that our state has a lot more work to do to eliminate the scourge of domestic violence, which claims the lives of more than 40 South Carolina women every year.” Republican State Sen. Greg Gregory also weighed in on the news on Twitter. Appears they’ll be one less “good guy with a gun” in the General Assembly when it convenes next week. — Sen. Greg Gregory (@KlughGregory) December 28, 2016 Corley will be suspended from the House if he’s indicted on a felony charge. South Carolina Republican Party Chairman Matt Moore said in an email to The Post And Courier that he hopes the legal process is swift and his thoughts are with the family. “I trust the legal system to deal with these disturbing charges against Rep. Corley in a timely manner,” he said. “Until then, our thoughts and prayers are with his wife and children.” Corley is due in court on February 10. If convicted, Corley is facing a sentence of up to 10 years in prison for first-degree domestic violence and up to five years in prison for the gun charge.
