Frank Sinatra’s My Way is the top pick for funeral songs, a new British survey reports. According to the Daily Mail more and more people are choosing the songs they want played at their funeral and the signature song from ‘Ol Blue Eyes’ is the most popular choice. After Frank Sinatra’s “My Way,” “Time To Say Goodbye” by Andrea Boccelli and Sarah Brightman was number two on the list. Rounding out the top 3 was Eva Cassidy’s, “Somewhere Over The Rainbow.” The results were drawn from a survey of 300 British Co-op funeral directors and 2,000 adults. And it isn’t just classics that are getting chosen as swansongs. Contemporary pop songs are also being played a lot at funerals as well. The list of sought after funeral songs also includes Robbie Williams, Westlife, Adele and Rihanna songs. The survey also notes that song choices are also being influenced by the deaths of popular celebrities. “Wiz Khalifa’s track “See You Again,” dedicated to the late Paul Walker, has made it into the contemporary pop charts whilst the late David Bowie’s “Ashes To Ashes” has also been requested by clients in the last 12 months,” said David Collingwood, co-op funeral chief. According to The Telegraph, the study on popular funeral songs also claims that theme songs for beloved TV shows like Game Of Thrones could become more popular at British funerals in the future. Hymns are still among some of the go-to songs at funerals with “The Lord Is My Shepherd,” “Abide With Me” and “All Things Bright And Beautiful” still common picks. But the trend is skewing towards songs that meant something to the life of the person who died. “Funerals are very much about personal choice and reflecting the personality, hobbies and interests of a person,” Collingwood said. “More so than ever we’re seeing people pre-plan their funeral music and, in the last 12 months, 42 per cent of our funeral directors and arrangers have received ready-made pre-planned funeral playlists.” Ready-made funeral playlists on the rise as Frank Sinatra’s My Way stays top of the pops… https://t.co/3y11MdrfUi pic.twitter.com/8AxkRtendF — The Telegraph (@Telegraph) August 31, 2016 SID AVERY Frank Sinatra at a Capitol Records Recording Session 1954 pic.twitter.com/rB4CTYrh4l — History in Moments (@historyinmoment) August 28, 2016 A brief history of Frank Sinatra’s “My Way.” According Song Facts, Frank Sinatra’s My Way was adapted from a French song called “Comme D’Habitude” (French for “As Usual,”) written by composers Jacques Revaux and Gilles Thibault. The song was first recorded by French singer Claude Francois in 1967 and it became something of a hit in Europe. “Comme D’Habitude” is about a man whose life is destroyed by boredom. If you listen below you’ll hear that it has the same melody as “My Way.” The song “My Way” did not become a reality until Paul Anka discovered the song and changed the lyrics. Anka offered the song to Frank Sinatra and Ol Blue Eyes recorded it in the late sixties. The rest, as they say, is history. Although it become the song he’s most remembered for, Frank Sinatra hated “My Way,” and he said so repeatedly in concert, according to The Wall Street Journal. He apparently thought the song was too pretentious and self-serving. “I hate this song — you sing it for eight years, you would hate it too!” Sinatra said on stage at Caesar’s palace in 1978 of the iconic song. Would you like “My Way” to be played at your funeral? What are some of your favorite Frank Sinatra songs? Let us know in the comments below. [Photo by The Hulton Archive/Getty Images]
By now, you have likely heard about Kim Kardashian being robbed at gunpoint in her hotel room in Paris. The celebrity was bound and gagged while the thieves stole over $10 million of Kim’s jewelry. Did the reality star’s over-sharing on social media make her a vulnerable target? Will the robbery change the way the social media queen shares information with the public? Kim Kardashian was staying at l’Hotel de Pourtales, a luxury apartment block, while in the city for Paris Fashion Week. It wasn’t long before everyone knew where the reality star was staying because Kim shared Snapchats and Instagram photos of the extravagant digs with her fans. #kim #kimkardashian #kimkardashianwest #kimksnapchat #kimksnapchats #kimkardashiansnapchat #kkw #fashion #style #swag #london #paris #milan #newyork #la #miami #atlanta #snapchat #kimye #kuwtk #kardashians #parisfashionweek #balmain #PFW #ootd A video posted by Kim Kardashian Snapchats (@kimksnapchats) on Sep 29, 2016 at 8:34am PDT Hours before the robbery, Kim was FaceTiming with her brother, Rob Kardashian, and Blac Chyna at their baby shower back in Los Angeles. #kim #kimkardashian #kimkardashianwest #kimksnapchat #kimksnapchats #kimkardashiansnapchat #kkw #fashion #style #swag #london #paris #milan #newyork #la #miami #atlanta #kimye #kuwtk #kardashians #parisfashionweek #PFW #blacchyna #robkardashian #babyshower A video posted by Kim Kardashian Snapchats (@kimksnapchats) on Oct 2, 2016 at 6:54pm PDT Kim has previously stayed at l’Hotel de Pourtales with her famous family. It was not difficult to piece together from the shots that Kim shared on social media where she had been staying while in Paris. The men who robbed Kim Kardashian knew where she would be and when she would be alone. The thieves got into l’Hotel de Pourtales, which can cost up to $30,000 a week to stay in, by posing as police officers, according to a report by Cosmopolitan. The locals refer to the luxury location as “No Address France” because it is so exclusive. In fact, l’Hotel de Pourtales even requires a log-in to view their website. Unfortunately, that just wasn’t enough to protect Kim Kardashian from being targeted for the robbery. Kim Kardashian’s ex-bodyguard told the Daily Mail that he was not surprised that the reality star was robbed and that she should really consider withdrawing from social media. Steve Stanulis, 42, said that he had previously warned the celebrity to share less information on social media and stop flaunting her riches. The former bodyguard appeared on Good Morning Britain to comment on the situation. He believes that the star was most likely targeted by someone with access to her. “As the facts keep coming out and the more stuff unwinds, 100 per cent it’s an inside job.” Stanulis also bashed Kim Kardashian’s current security team, including her head of security, Pascal Duvier, for leaving the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star unattended. The former NYPD officer continued to say how Kim had practically made herself a target. “They went to an exclusive place, with exclusive entrances, they knew exactly where to go, where to find the jewellery. “Security was out with the sisters and Kim had been showing all the jewellery on Snapchat. Chris Brown has been released on $250,000 bail following his arrest for assault with a deadly weapon. The 27-year-old singer posted bail late Tuesday night following an intense, 14 hour long stand-off with police. Brown’s legal problems began when police responded to a call at his multi-million dollar Tarzana, California home around 3 a.m. When police approached the singer to investigate, the artist told them that they would need to return with a warrant for Brown to comply with the police. A search warrant was eventually issued Tuesday afternoon, but when police returned Brown refused to leave his house and held a stand-off with police for more than 12 hours. While Brown was locked in his home, he made a series of since deleted Instagram videos trashing the police and proclaiming his innocence. E! News Reports that in one video, Brown thinks that he’s been set up because of his past and his status in popular culture. During the Instagram video, the singer said, “Y’all, every three months you get tired of me right? You gotta be. Every three months y’all come up with something, bro. What is it? What’s going to be next? Imma fart an elephant? C’mon, my n—a. But at the same time when I call the police for stalker people that are endangering my life they don’t come till the next day, let somebody make a f–ked up allegation about me, and oh! You get a whole f–king SWAT team. My n—a, I’m innocent. F–k everybody in this s–t.” Police swarm Chris Brown’s home after being called on Tuesday morning. (AP Photo/Damian Dovarganes) The police responded after a 24-year-old model, Baylee Curran, former Miss California regional title holder, claimed Brown threatened her with a gun at his house on Tuesday morning. The altercation began when Curran examined a diamond necklace that someone on Brown’s estate was selling. According to Curran, both Brown and his friend became agitated, and threatened her with a gun. The model said she had hung out with Brown before, but this is the first time he had ever gotten violent. CNN reports that Brown’s accuser was stripped of her Miss California title in July due to unspecified “erratic behavior.” Joshua James, a spokesperson for the Miss California Regional pageant said, “She is not the current title holder. She was stripped of her crown… there were some incidents that we had to investigate, that she was displaying erratic behavior. We can’t go into detail on those matters.” The validity of Curran’s claims have not yet been investigated by police, but Brown has maintained a relatively clean record since his 2009 assault and conviction of pop star Rihanna. After Brown’s felony assault conviction against Rihanna, the singer was given five years probation. After he broke his probation in 2013, a judge sent him to rehab instead of sentencing him to jail time. Despite their tumultuous relationship, Rihanna allegedly texted Brown during his stand-off with police out of concern for her ex-boyfriend and the future well being of his daughter, Royalty. It’s been quite a few years since Brown has had any more serious run ins with the law. Although the singer has maintained his inflammatory persona in public life, including suing his former manager this year, he has also had a child, and continued to release new music. After the “Loyal” singer was released, his attorney, Mark Geragos, tweeted, “Chris is out and well. The allegations against him are demonstrably false #TeamBreezy.” Which comes as added backing after artists like Ray J, Rihanna, and Bruno Mars tweeted or expressed support for the recently arrested singer. Brown is scheduled to make his first court appearance for the August 30 charges on September 20 at the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center in Los Angeles, California. Chilling trailers have been released for the new Amanda Knox Netflix documentary which premieres September 30. Two trailers were released: “Believe Her” and “Suspect Her” to play up different aspects of Amanda Knox’s legal controversy. In the “Believe Her” trailer, Amanda Knox is pictured as a teary-eyed girl who maintains her innocence. This trailer focuses on the intense media scrutiny Knox had to endure. “Suddenly I felt myself tossed into this dark place. I was so scared” The “Suspect Her” trailer is the exact opposite of the one before. Working to undo your trust in Amanda Knox’s story, she is framed in an interrogative light. Knox maintains her innocence, but in a much more hardened manner, much more difficult to sympathize with. “I asked myself, is a monster responsible for this?” The second trailer ends with a chilling statement from Knox. That’s everyone’s nightmare. Either I’m a psychopath in sheep’s clothing. Or I am you.” The story of Amanda Knox began in 2007, when a college student’s life was forever changed by a trip abroad to Italy. Amanda’s roommate, Meredith Kercher, was found dead in the apartment they shared together. Kercher had been found with multiple stab wounds. Amanda Knox and her boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, were convicted for the brutal death and sentenced to 26 years of prison. [Photo by Franco Origlia/Getty Images] Last year, that ruling was overturned according to CNN. Knox and Sollecito spent four years in prison. Tried once more in 2014, they were once again found guilty, then finally exonerated by the Italian Supreme Court in 2015. Another man named Rudy Guede was arrested, tried, and convicted for Meredith Kercher. The documentary includes interviews from Amanda Knox, Raffaele Sollecito, prosecutor Giuliano Mignini, and Daily Mail reporter Nick Pisa. Vanity Fair spoke with the documentary’s co-director Brian McGinn about the making of the film. “Everyone else who had reported the story had been on the outside. I wanted to look at it from the inside out.” Brian McGinn and Rod Blackhurst spent five years interviewing all of the people involved in the infamous case, according to the Hollywood Reporter. [Photo by Oli Scarff/Getty Images] The filmmakers made it clear from the start that they would have a different approach when talking with Amanda Knox. Both McGinn and Blackhurst made it known that the interviews with Amanda Knox would not be confrontational in any way. “It was important to form some sort of connection. We were a couple of young guys from the states. We had not experienced anything like what Amanda had gone through or, for that matter, what Magnini had gone through. Our goal was to let Amanda, Mignini, Sollecito and Pisa drive the conversation and reveal things about themselves. With that in mind, it was very different than the goal of an ABC news program with Diane Sawyer or a lot of the other public appearances Amanda had made where it was really considered a forum to discuss ‘Did you do it?’ or ‘Did you not?’. That was really never the way we came at the story.” One of the major themes in the documentary is how a society can turn tragedy into a commodity. The filmmakers learned that people tend to make judgement based on how they feel rather than what the facts are. [Photo by Franco Origlia/Getty Images] The documentations aim was to tell the untold story. Blackhurst and McGinn were convinced that there was more to discover about the case. “People weren’t looking past the headlines to understand what had happened. They had developed these passionate ideas of who these people were, but nobody seemed any closer to figuring out what had really happened despite the global media scrutiny.” “Previous coveragehad really been led by the new click-bait journalism. We felt there was a place for the personal, human side of the story — to actually hear from the people involved.” Five years later, their hard work and persistence paid off and their documentary feature Amanda Knox will premiere at the Toronto Film Festival on September 9. A man in Canada has had to take extreme measures in order to prove his innocence in court. The defendant in a rape-and-choking trial on Tuesday told members of the Jury that he could not have taken part in the crime, owing to his extreme obesity and his incredibly tiny penis, Ottawa Citizen reports. 44-year old Jacques Rouschop, who pleaded not guilty in a 2013 rape case involving two Vanier workers, appeared twice before court in the past week, first on October 6, Thursday, then again on October 11, Tuesday. His lawyer first brought up the notion that he could not have been involved in the accused crimes owning to his physical limitations, namely an extremely obese body and a micro-penis. Feeling that this could be his best shot at winning the case, Jacques stuck to these claims when he spoke before the Jury on Tuesday. Rouschop, who has a history of criminal records stretching four decades, was represented by his attorney Natasha Calvinho. In her opening statement, Natasha made sure to acknowledge Jacques’ past crimes. “He is far from a perfect man. He has made mistakes. He has committed crimes. He has spent time in jail and has a significant criminal record. He is known to local police and is someone who has been in and out of jail most of his adult life.” Calvinho then proceeded on to her main defense, claiming that it couldn’t have been physically possible for Jacques to be involved in the rape of the two women. “Due to his weight (around 400 pounds at the time) and his appearance, he will be the first to tell you that he has had a lot of trouble attracting members of the opposite , and that getting a woman’s attention, let alone having , was not something that happened very often for him. Despite his lack of physical attractiveness, he still had needs — ual needs. And he turned to the services of trade workers” Calvinho further went on to state that Rouschop had actually cared for the two workers, driving them around when they needed to and buying them groceries. Jacques spoke about this in the trial on Tuesday. “It’s all lies … these girls knew me and I cared for them.” To prove her case about Jacques’ physical limitations, Natasha brought in a registered nurse as a defense witness. The nurse testified before the Jury that she had volunteered to take the physical measurements of Rouschop. She stated that Jacques was five-foot-six with a whopping 66-inch waist and 31-inch thighs. She then stated that he had a micro penis, 1-inch when flaccid and 2-inches when erect. The Nurse had also measured Jacques’ umbilical hernia, at 3.5 inches by 3.25 inches. These measurements were taken in the Innes Road jail where Jacques is currently being held. Jacques’ weight could not be measured accurately since the scales in the Jail only went up to 320 pounds (Jacques’ weight has been approximated at over 400 pounds). The members of the Jury were also handed photographs of Jacques’ bare body in order to confirm the measurements. Rouschop, who is a career thief, was on trial for allegedly being involved in the rape of two Vanier woman back in 2013. The two women, both trade workers, testified as Crown witnesses in the trial. They spoke about the night of the assault, recalling how they were attacked then choked until they passed out. The incident had taken place in an unknown industrial lot on the backseat of Jacques’s pickup truck. The girls testified that they could not recall whether or not Jacques had a micro-penis. Jacques stuck to his micro-penis defense on Tuesday, claiming it was his “only defense”. “I have the penis of a seven-year-old. I’m not making this up. I can whip it out and show you.” “I was innocent and I still am.” [Image by Nils Z/Shutterstock]
Twitter just launched a new video streaming application for Apple TV, Amazon Fire and Xbox One gaming console. The new Twitter video app will be available for users with these devices without a Twitter account or a pay-TV subscription, Twitter issued in a statement on Wednesday. The application will feature video content from a number of companies that partnered with Twitter including the National Football League and the National Basketball Association according to Fortune. Users will now be able to stream NFL games as well as other sporting events. Question: Does @twitter release an AppleTV app tomorrow so that users can watch live NFL games starting on Thursday night? Discuss. — Chris Ptacek (@chrisptacek) September 13, 2016 Twitter’s announcement comes just a day before the first of 10 NFL Thursday night games. Thursday night’s game featuring the New York Jets and Buffalo Bills will stream on CBS, NFL Network and Twitter. Twitter reportedly spent a cool $10 million on the rights and won over Verizon and Amazon according to Mashable. Jack Dorsey, CEO of Twitter, has been pushing for Twitter into video, signing deals with several media companies and sports organizations. Some of which include MLB Advanced Media, NBA, Pac 12 Networks, Campus Insiders, Bloomberg News and a new business startup called Cheddar. [Image by Scott Olson/Getty Images] Along with videos, the app will stream tweets, Vines and Periscopes. The app Periscope was launched by Twitter for Apple TV last year. Inside of the new Twitter video streaming app users will be able to choose to see tweets and videos side by side. The tweets are pulled from any user based on relevant content. While live streaming content, users will be able to select a video that appears on the stream of tweets. The timing of the application launch is a disappointment to some Twitter shareholders, like the president of Jupiter Wealth Strategies. “It’s great to see Twitter get in bed with giants like Amazon, Microsoft and Apple, however, they need to be more proactive in marketing themselves and new initiatives.” Twitter declined to share if they are running TV ads around the NFL games. Another new adjustment to Twitter’s character count will be that usernames will no longer count when they are at the beginning of reply tweets. Twitter’s CEO spoke with Verge back in May when the announcement was first made. “This is the most notable change we’ve made in recent times around conversation in particular, and around giving people the full expressiveness of the 140 characters I’m excited to see even more dialog because of this.” Dorsey has always been a fan of the 140-character tweet limit, which was originally implemented so that the tweets could fit within SMS messages. Users can expect the character limit will be updated next week and now center around just the message– not the media attached to the tweet. [Featured Image by Bethany Clarke/Getty Images]
It seems like everything Kanye West touches these days turns to gold. He’s a talented performer with a colorful personality, so naturally, everyone always wonders what he’s up to. It turns out what he’s been up to is producing a remix of Desiigner’s hit “Tiimmy Turner”. As Elias Leight of Rolling Stone points out, Kanye played a big hand in putting Desiigner on the map by featuring his underground hit “Panda” on his album “Life of Pablo”. That song saw instant success and became a No. 1 hit. Then, in June, Desiigner dropped a freestyle rap on YouTube titled “Desiigner Timmy Turner Freestyle – XXL Freshman 2016” that nearly broke the internet. It now has over 10 million views and featured the main hook that eventually was used in the final version of “Tiimmy Turner”. Of course, once the Internet got a hold of the freestyle, the popularity was too large for Desiigner to resist making an actual track. He did just that and debuted the song later in June on his mixtape “New English”. Now, in it’s latest, remixed version, one of the industry’s biggest stars decided he wanted to hop on. Talk about overnight success. Desiigner has now gone from a relative unknown to a budding star in less than a year. In the song, Kanye compares himself to cultural icons like Muhammad Ali, Walt Disney, and Steve Jobs. This is nothing new for the star rapper; he makes similar comparisons in most of his songs. Desiigner has turned into a star in 2016, but after Kanye jumped on his hit track, even better things could be ahead for the teen rapper.
[Image by Matt Sayles/AP Images] As Desiigner is breaking in with G.O.O.D. Music, where Kanye is essentially his boss, it’s clear Yeezy sees potential in the teen rapper. That begs the question: will we see more of the two collaborating in the future? Neither has commented on that, but with Desiigner’s popularity on the upswing, one has to think Kanye will continue to ride out his newfound star’s wave of success as long as he possibly can. At the end of the day, the rap game is business. Other Popular Kanye Re-mixes: This is hardly the first time Kanye has jumped on a popular track and made it his own. He was featured on a remix of Rihanna’s hit “Diamonds” in 2012 in which he drops a Will Smith Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reference, “chilling out maxin’, relaxin’, shooting some pool, playing some b-ball outside of the school”. Kanye West, Jay-Z, and Beyonce are all stars, so when they combined on a re-mix of “Drunk in Love”, it was an instant hit.
[Image by Matt Sayles/AP Images] One of the things Kanye is best at is taking already-popular songs and putting his own creative spin on it. People already like the original version, but in many cases, they like the re-mix featuring Kanye even more. Another prime example of this is when he and Jay Z re-mixed Beyonce’s “Drunk in Love”. The re-mix became a hit and gave even more fame to a song that was already a hit in its own right. Kanye’s Saint Pablo Tour Continues: Perhaps Kanye will perform the re-mix on his ongoing Saint Pablo tour now that it has been released to the masses. The tour is already close to being over with a West Coast swing involving 10 shows, two of which are in Canada, scheduled over the next couple weeks. Kanye’s Saint Pablo tour continues with several shows on the West Coast in the coming weeks.
[Image by Robb Cohen/AP Images] He wraps up the tour by heading back east and playing shows in Philadelphia on December 13 and Detroit on December 22. That tour ends three days before Christmas, but most Kanye fans probably feel like this latest re-mix is a gift that came a little early. During the solemn and occasionally excitable track Kanye drops, he reminds us all why he’s a superstar: he’s constantly reinventing himself. Say what you will about the man, but he is an entertainer and this latest track proves exactly that. He has also put out a memo to the hip-hop and rap industry: if you put out a popular song, you better let me re-mix it. [Featured image by Ezra Shaw/Getty Images]
A long-lost British exploration ship, HMS Terror, had been found according to Canadian Arctic explorers. The ship, which was a part of the doomed Franklin Expedition in 1845, was found on he bottom of Victoria Strait in the Western Arctic. With this discovery, one of the greatest maritime mysteries of the world seems to have been solved once and for all, almost 170 years later. The long-lost HMS Terror has been found in pristine condition under 80 feet of water https://t.co/4cfw2WHdj5 pic.twitter.com/2boMmT5F6D — CNN (@CNN) September 17, 2016 The Arctic Research Foundation announced the discovery on Monday, although the main government partner in the search, Parks Canada, refused to confirm anything, only saying that the discovery “would be important for Canada” and that they are “currently working with our partners to validate the details of the discovery.” The Arctic Research Foundation has said that the ship is in a well-preserved state. The foundation’s operations director, Adrian Schimnowski described the findings via an email to the Guardian. “We have successfully entered the mess hall, worked our way into a few cabins and found the food storage room with plates and one can on the shelves.” “We spotted two wine bottles, tables and empty shelving. Found a desk with open drawers with something in the back corner of the drawer.” Schimnowski also told the Guardian that everything in the ship appeared to be locked down tight. “This vessel looks like it was buttoned down tight for winter and it sank. Everything was shut. Even the windows are still intact. If you could lift this boat out of the water, and pump the water out, it would probably float.” Cambridge Bay, Canada [Image by Sophia Granchinho/Shutterstock] The Arctic Research Foundation is funded by Canadian tech tychoon and philanthropist Jim Balsillie. Balsillie co-founded Research in Motion, the creators of the Blackberry phones. Balsillie played a key role in the expedition leading to the discovery of these ships and he spoke to the Guardian about it, explaining his theory on why the twin ships sank further south than where they were first abandoned. “This discovery changes history. Given the location of the find [in Terror Bay] and the state of the wreck, it’s almost certain that HMS Terror was operationally closed down by the remaining crew who then re-boarded HMS Erebus and sailed south where they met their ultimate tragic fate.” HMS Terror and HMS Erebus, its sister ship, had sailed from England in 1845 with 129 men. But as the ship headed north, it got caught in the ice, as the sea began to freeze around it. With supplies running low, it was finally abandoned in April 1948. The crew members thus began an ill-fated walk to the south, but the badly preserved tinned food lead them to their deaths, one at a time. Several search parties were sent out but only the remains of some of the sailors were found. The ships were never discovered, thus sparking one of the biggest maritime mysteries of all time. HMS Terror’s sister ship, HMS Erebus was found in September 2014, on the ocean floor a few miles off King William Island. The wreck of HMS Terror was found on September 3. But according to Oksana Schimnowski, the group had to wait to make sure that they had the right wreckage. “They had to steam back to Cambridge Bay, a full day away. Then they had to return with remote-controlled video equipment to examine the ship. The need for safety in the Arctic also made the searchers work slowly.” She also clarified what led the team to confirm the identity of the ship. “Erebus and Terror were what they called bomb vessels. These were ships carrying heavy mortars, and they had reinforced hulls that were judged useful for work in Arctic ice. They were the only two bomb vessels known to have sailed in the Arctic, and that made identification easier.” Now, as Britain and Canada lock horns to determine the fate of all the contents abroad the two ships, the Inuit community in the Canadian territory of Nunavut, where HMS Terror was found, are asking to be made a part of the discussions. Cathy Towtongie of Nunavut Tunngavik, the representatives of the Inuit community of Nunavut, spoke with the Guardian about the matter. “We have to be at the table. This violates the Crown’s fiduciary duty to Inuit and its consultation obligation.” [Feature Image by Angelo Giampiccolo/Shutterstock]
A huge update on the new tool album. After comments from bassist Justin Chancellor & Drummer Danny Carey last month, Guitarist Adam Jones had become the latest member of the legendary Prog Metal band to confirm that the band are in fact working on getting a new album out. Guitarist Adam Jones also directs most of Tool’s music videos. [Image via Adam Jones Tool/Facebook] Jones confirmed the rumors during a recent meet-and-greet event held in Salt Lake City. He reportedly told the audience that drummer Danny Carey and bassist Justin Chancellor were at the moment working three days a week on the new album. Jones even told the fans that the band had in fact already recorded two albums worth of material, hence hinting that the band’s new album would be a double album. Jones then reportedly played a riff from one of the new songs to the fans. However, Jones was quick to point out that out of those two albums worth of materials, only 5 songs “meet their Tool standard.” Jones also pointed out that front-man, singer and the primary songwriter of the band, Maynard James Keenan was yet to write any of the lyrics, pointing out that he usually waits until 90% of the instrumentals are written before he starts writing the songs. So, unless he’s messing with us, Jones just confirmed that a new album, albeit on its way, is still quite a long way off. Hebert/AP Images] Fans have waited for a new Tool album for more than 10 years now. Since the release of 2006’s critically acclaimed 10,000 Days, the band that rocked the progressive metal scene of the ’90s has been relatively quiet. The band members, one would think, had almost retired, with their families, kids, and the wine-making. But rumors of a new Tool album started flowing around earlier this year. A new double album was said to be in the making, with a release date set for the fall of this year. Although Maynard initially refuted these claims, calling it “dumb,” bassist Justin Chancellor later confirmed these rumors saying that a new Tool album was in fact in the making. Drummer Danny Carey followed Justin’s lead, confirming the new album during his first TV appearance in the show Late Night with Seth Meyers. Danny played with the show’s band and at one point host Seth Meyers spoke of a new tool album “coming sometime soon.” And now, with Adam confirming the new album, all 4 members have had their say on the rumors. Rumors of a new Tool double album have been circulating around ever since a fan posted on Reddit in July, claiming that Tool would be releasing a new 2.5-hour double album titled Decem this fall, before embarking on a big national tour. The fan even posted the track list of the new album, which included “Descending,” a song partially performed during one of the band’s recent tours. It has been 10 years since the release of Tool’s latest album 10,000 Days. Tool fans have been desperately awaiting a fifth album ever since. Therefore, it was only natural for Tool fans, even the most cynical ones, to get excited as the rumors of a new double album appeared last week. But frontman Maynard James Keenen had shrewdly laid these rumors to rest with a tweet calling the rumors “Dumb”. But despite Maynard’s tweet, some fans still seemed very optimistic. They pointed out how Tool liked to mess around with the fans regarding the release of an album. And indeed, the band has done that in the past, one example being that time they posted fake track listings before the release of Lateralus in 2001. It’s safe to say that recent revelations from Justin Chancellor, Danny Carey and Adam Jones have made a lot of fans very happy. Frontman Maynard James Keenan’s autobiography is coming out in November. [Image by John Shearer/AP Images] It had widely been speculated that the delay in the release of Tool’s fifth album was the result of frontman Maynard James Keenan’s frustration and indifference with the band’s followers. But in 2014, in an interview with Rolling Stone, Danny Carey and Adam Jones revealed that the actual cause of the delay was family commitments and an ongoing lawsuit. After the lawsuit was settled in favor of the band in 2015, Jones revealed that the band was now turning their focus to recording a new album, adding that he hoped it would be released by the end of 2015. Well, it’s past mid-2016 now and Tool fans across the globe are hoping that the rumors of the double album are actually true. Tool played the Aftershock festival earlier this month, where they also played the rumored new song, Decem. You can check it out, along with the entire set below.
