Google Nexus 2016 Release Soon As Nexus 6P Discount Emerged

Is a new Google Nexus smartphone already on the horizon? While there have been no news yet of a Google Nexus 2016 release, the fact that the project’s current high-end smartphone option, the Nexus 6P, is getting a big discount has many Android fans speculating that a new Nexus smartphone may just be around the corner.

Take a quick look at the Google Store, and you will see that you can get the Nexus 6P with a $50 discount if you buy the matte gold version. The smartphone will end up only costing you $449 for the 32GB unit and $499 for the 64GB option. Google is, likewise, giving shoppers a $50 credit which can be used on any future purchase of a Huawei Watch if you buy a Nexus 6P in any color variant.

The $50 discount is being offered by Google as part of its Valentine’s Day promotions and is only available on the Google Store until Feb. 14 as confirmed by a company representative to The Verge.

The most recent $50 discount to the Nexus 6P, which is being manufactured by Chinese phone manufacturer Huawei, comes after Google already cut down the price of the smartphone by $30 just earlier this month. This latest news have many android fans speculating that the move by Google to possibly try and sell as many of its current Nexus smartphone options as possible is only a precursor to a release of a newer 2016 model.

Though there have been no official release from Google regarding a brand new Nexus smartphone, rumors are already circulating that the company will be partnering with HTC this year. According to BGR, a post on Chinese social media site Weibo fueled the rumor and that according to the post Google will be partnering with HTC to make not only one, but two new Nexus smartphones in 2016.

With the quiet price cuts made by Google on the Nexus 6P and the leaked information about HTC partnering up with the tech company, news of a Nexus 2016 smartphone will probably come sooner rather than later.

New Leaked Photo of LG G5 Shows the Rumored "Magic Slot"

The LG G5 is one of the most anticipated smartphones expected to launch at the Mobile World Congress 2016 in Barcelona, Spain. Aside from a predecessor which received rave reviews when it was released last year, the G5 also got the attention of many smartphone enthusiasts because of the addition of a “Magic Slot” which not many people knew about. Recently, new photos of the LG G5 have surfaced which shows the mysterious “Magic Slot” in action.

Android Authority reports that it has acquired several leaked photos of the smartphone which clearly shows the “Magic Slot” which was hyped up by the company earlier. According to the report from Android Authority, the “Magic Slot” will allow different accessories or modules to be inserted at the bottom of the device.

The leaked photo shows a gold-colored LG G5 which has an attached module to it. The back of the LG G5 in the photo is consistent with the previous leaks about the device which only adds to the legitimacy of the photo. Though the image shows the background to have been blocked out, Android Authority asserts that the source is legitimate and the photos are indeed of the yet to be released LG G5.

The attached module in the leaked image is rather large though the report could not confirm what it actually is. Android Authority speculates that it could be an extended battery module or quite possibly even a camera module.

The “Magic Slot” certainly is a new and exciting feature which can really set the LG G5 apart from the other major smartphones expected to be released at the Mobile World Congress 2016. Expect more and more details about it and the LG G5 in its entirety as the launch date for the smartphone comes closer. The Verge confirms that the LG G5 is expected to be announced by LG on February 21st in Barcelona just before the start of the MWC 2016.

BlackBerry may launch its second Android-powered smartphone at MWC 2016

Following the success of BlackBerry Priv, the company is planning to launch its second flagship device at MWC 2016, says a report. The company hinted in December that it would unveil another Android powered smartphone in 2016.

According to Tech News Today,  BlackBerry’s second smartphone is supposed to be codenamed as “Vienna” and will be come with price tag which would be lower than the Priv smartphone. However, the company didn’t reveal any specific launch date for the second Android smartphone.

It is worth noting that images if the BlackBerry “Vienna” was leaked in November last year and it showed that the traditional slider design will no longer be used instead its iconic physical keyboard upfront design would be used in its second Android smartphone. The leaked images also showed that physical buttons for volume is used on the right panel and a power button on the left panel. A camera with flash will be included in the device.

Earlier this year, John Chen, CEO of BlackBerry had indicated that the second Android smartphone would fall under the mid-range segment. He also hinted that the company would probably launch two smartphone instead of one and both smartphone would be powered by Google’s Android OS, as reported by NDTV.

Last year in October, BlackBerry Priv smartphone was launched, which sports a 5.40-inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 1440 pixels by 2560 pixels. The device is powered by 1.44 GHz hexa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor coupled with 3GB RAM. 32GB of internal storage is included and expandable storage support incorporated. According to NDTV, the users can expand its memory via microSD card up to 2000GB.

While in terms of camera, an 18MP snapper is placed on the rear-side and 2MP shooter is placed on the front-side of the device. The device runs on Android 5.1.1 and backed by a 3410mAh non-removable battery. Connection options such as Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, NFC, and 4G are incorporated as well as sensors like Proximity sensor, Ambient light sensor, Accelerometer, and Gyroscope are included. The BlackBerry Priv comes with a single SIM (GSM) feature which accepts a Nano-SIM option.

HTC Vive May Be A Game Changer In VR Field–Watch Out Oculus Rift

With Facebook acquiring Oculus Rift to dominate the VR category, now comes along HTC Vive messing up the VR hype for all parties involved. That virtually (pun intended) makes the total number of contenders in the VR arms race up to four.

HTC’s been teasing their own VR gaming setup for quite some time now. But they’ve been pretty unclear with the facts. Plagued by delays and little to no mainstream press, the (hardly) touted HTC Vive has been less of a conversation item, and more of an urban legend.

That changed with the recently-concluded Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada. Prior to the show, HTC delayed production yet again. But this time, there was a purpose behind the delay: there had been a breakthrough in the peripheral’s design.

When the Vive—here called the Vive Pre—was presented during CES, it was made clear that the “breakthrough” was really nothing more than a front-facing camera mounted to the headgear. This was old hat for people who’ve been following developments with the Oculus Rift, or even with Google Cardboard.

All of this changed when HTC demoed the Vive Pre. First of all, the unit had two modes of operation: stationary (whether you’re standing or sitting), and mobile. The second mode required a space of at least 5 by 6.5 feet. That means that your living room can become your playing field.

The mobile mode also made the addition of the front facing camera sensible. The camera could theoretically show you where you were going while walking around with a VR mask, making it an indispensable safety device.

This would also eliminate the need for additional walking peripherals, like the Cyberith Virtualizer. Instead of pushing against a rig that triggered in-game movements, you would actually be walking.

And then there’s the possibility of immersive reality, something Google’s been playing around with their partnership with VR company Magic Leap. Except that HTC probably got there first. By combining game elements and the front facing camera, apps could virtually “project” VR objects onto the real world.

In other words, the new HTC Vive Pre could be a game changer this early in the VR race. Of course, it’s too early to tell; both the Rift and the Vive Pre are in the early stages of pre-selling. The latter will be in the market by April of 2016, a few months shy of June, so we could probably see which unit outsells which by the time summer has come around.

HTC One M10 Release on Apr. 11 With High End Specs

A new image of the alleged HTC One M10 has emerged online highlighting some rumored design aspects of the upcoming smartphone. The 2016 Mobile World Congress has been promising so far for smartphone lovers as several companies such as Samsung, LG, Sony and more have launched their flagship handsets.

HTC has also showcased some of its new mobile phones in the Desire series but the company’s flagship device has missed the party. It seems HTC device enthusiasts will have to wait longer to see the much anticipated One M10, codenamed Perfume. According to a previous report by Tech Times, HTC has no plans of launching its flagship smartphone anytime soon.  According to a report by Android Headlines, it emerged yesterday with sources stating that HTC will hold a flagship smartphone launch event in London on Apr. 11.

Many renders of the One M10 have already oozed out online in the past few months and few more images of the HTC offering have appeared again online. The latest ejected image comes courtesy of Chinese microblogging website Weibo and shows the upper back portion of the One M10. If the leaked render is to be believed, then the upcoming One M10 will be encased in an all-metal frame. The handset will have a slightly extended camera and a dual-tone LED flash. A black sensor just under the flash could be a vertically positioned laser-assisted autofocus system. When it comes to design, the handset seems to have a slight curve and large chamfered edges. The top-center appears to be the spot for a 3.5-millimeter audio jack. The volume control buttons are positioned at the left of the mobile phone, which matches with previous leaks.

The HTC One M10 is rumored to have a 5.1-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels. Speculations are also high that HTC’s next flagship will be available in two models: one with Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor and 4GB of RAM and the other with a MediaTek processor. The Qualcomm version of the mobile device is more likely to hit American and European markets. The HTC offering may include 32GB onboard storage. Customers may also expect a microSD card slot, which will be useful for expanding the storage capacity of the phone.

Most of the flagships launched and to be launched are expected to come running on the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow, and HTC One M10 is also expected to get the latest operating system to be at par with rivals.

HTC has not yet confirmed the launch date of the One M10, which means customers will have to wait a little longer for a flagship smartphone from the Taiwanese company.

WhatsApp Encryption Is Better Than Any Messenger Apps?

There has been a lot of discussion about WhatsApp encryption move when the company rolled-out complete end-to-end encryption for users around the world. Those using WhatsApp may have seen the feature on their mobile phones suggesting that the messages will remain between the sender and recipient and no third party will be able to see these messages, not even WhatsApp itself.

There are many other messaging applications that have incorporated end-to-end encryption for messaging, but it is being said that WhatsApp has implemented the best practice in its mobile application.

The leading tech company, Apple also provides end-to-end encryption for the popular iMessage service but the user base of WhatApp is far bigger than the iMessage which is only available for iPhones. The way WhatsApp implemented end-to-end encryption is more secure than the other messaging apps because the company is also providing security codes that can be used to verify whether or not the messages are coming from the person they know.

The technology being used as WhatsApp encryption is a very clever way to secure the data of users. Every conversation uses a new key. If a key is stolen by the user, it would be impossible for them to decrypt the same.

According to a report by Fortune, WhatsApp encryption is a landmark step, and the process follows the footprints of a company called Whisper Systems. The team was also hired by Twitter’s security team to enhance their security.

The Whisper System created an application called Signal. The application provides encrypted voice calling and text messaging facility, and the same thing is now being used by WhatsApp.

However, there can be a concern among people who backup their WhatsApp data on Google Drive because it will certainly bring third parties in. However, there are not a lot of users who use the drive for backup. On the other hand, Apple’s iMessage backs up user data on Apple’s iCloud service, and this practice provides user encryption keys to Apple.

While the WhatsApp encryption has pleased billions of users worldwide, but security agencies are concerned about the feature. They suggest that WhatsApp could be misused by anti-national elements.

Leaked Image Shows OnePlus 3 Rear Camera Performance

Since OnePlus was founded in December 2013, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer released three handsets, namely the OnePlus One aka the hero smartphone that brought the company under the spotlight; the worthy OnePlus 2 sequel, and the mid-range OnePlus X which boasted of a sleek design.

OnePlus is all the rage over the internet lately. It is said to pack a punch with its flagship killer OnePlus 3.  A Techno Buffalo article seems to put more fuel to this. The website recently showed leaked images of how the rear camera of the flagship killer might work.

The picture found on Techno Buffalo, which surfaced earlier this week, shows a close-up of pink flowers in striking detail. If this is an undoctored photo, the OnePlus 3 may offer one of the best rear cameras around, at least when it comes to daylight shots. The device’s low-light capabilities could be another story entirely.

Rumor has it that the OnePlus 3 will pack a 15-megapixel or 16-megapixel rear camera. Based on this new leak, it looks like the device will be capable of bokeh-style focusing and impressive color reproduction. It may offer a wide aperture too, though it’s impossible to say for sure based on a single leaked photo.

Android Headlines is quick to report as well that the photo may indeed have been taken by a OnePlus 3 and may have been taken by no other than its CEO. Report claims OnePlus CEO, Liu Zuohu, who is also referred to as Pete Lau, shared a macro photo of a flower on the Chinese microblogging website Weibo along with the simple caption “park.” No other details have been given by Lau, but the Chinese media quickly picked up on the story and explored the idea that the photo may have been captured with a OnePlus 3.

The OnePlus 3 may very well be the culmination of everything that came before it, if so, then OnePlus may have a monster hit on its hands.

Google Cardboard News: 25M VR App Downloads Now

Hold on to your hats, folks. Google just took us into the future with their new Google Cardboard initiative, and the response has been astounding. You can’t really blame people, though, since virtual reality augmentation—Google’s calling it VR for the giggles—is the first real step towards integrating the digital and real worlds in a way that the worth-mentioning but silly Google Glass epically failed.

Over 25 Million (to be) Served

Just this week, Google shipped out approximately five million units of its physical Google Cardboard tools. This is something else, considering that they’re just basically cardboard cutout glasses meant to fit your Android-powered smartphone—which really goes to show that you can sell just about anything, if you can create the market.

But this market’s more than just a demographic willing to shell out the green for hipster cardboard glasses. In conjunction with the shipment of physical units, the Google Play store has listed twenty-five million downloads of VR-compatible applications that can be used with Google Cardboard. This legitimizes the sheer enormity of the Cardboard’s sales figure, although there’s a curious disparity between the hardware shipped and software downloaded.

One can only assume that there are at least twenty million people making their own cardboard glasses.

One Magic Leap

But that’s just the tip of the iceberg. While all this brouhaha over Cardboard and VR has been going on, Google has silently been planning their next moves in the realm of virtual reality telephony (can you even call it that these days?)

Back in 2014, Google “…led a $542 million investment…” in Florida tech startup Magic Leap. This virtually unknown company turns out to be blazing a trail into VR territory, as can be evidenced by this video.

With this week’s news about the buyer turnout for Google Cardboard, it’s starting to look like this was a good investment. Both companies remain tight-lipped about their future projects, although it doesn’t look like Magic Leap is about to run out of funding, thanks to Internet sales machine Alibaba shoving $1 billion more into their direction last October 2015, so it’s a safe bet that this company will be shaping the future of VR technology in the years to come.

Future Investments?

But that’s not all Google’s been doing. The search giant’s been doing a little bit of recruitment under the radar, and most analysts think that the positions they’re sourcing are key components that can help them begin manufacturing their own VR hardware.

Smart move, Google. After all, it’s kind of hard to be taken seriously as a player in virtual reality when the best piece of hardware you’ve got to offer is a phone and a set of goggles cut out from cardboard.

T-Mobile To Start Samsung Galaxy S7, S7 Edge Shipping Tomorrow

After pre-orders for Samsung’s next two flagship smartphones, Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge became available in the US last Tuesday, February 23rd, numerous specialist of the South Korean consumer electronics manufacturer were on the lookout for early shipping notices.

Both phones are expected to arrive by March 11, which Samsung has dubbed as the official launch day. However, since we have seen pre-orders ship early in the past, we have been on the lookout for early shipping notices, especially from those through T-Mobile. Last year, T-Mobile started sending them for Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge as soon as March 28th despite neither phone being slated for release where T-Mobile shipped their orders almost two weeks early before April 10th, and it seems like something similar is going to happen again this year, according to Droid Life

As reported by several Reddit users, who already pre-ordered their latest Galaxy device and inquired when will they be able to get their hands on it, T-Mobile representatives had some rather positive news for them. Both the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge are apparently already being packed and will start shipping as early as this Monday, February 29th.   At this time, we don’t know that any orders have actually made their way onto a truck, but if notices are going out, T-Mobile’s overnight deliveries could be upon us.

if you already placed your preorder and depending on the shipping option you chose, it’s very likely that you’ll have your brand new Galaxy  S7 or Galaxy S7 Edge in hands before it officially hits store shelves in March. Granted, a received shipping notice doesn’t necessarily mean your order is actually shipping as it’s automatically sent as soon as a label is created, but last year’s developments make us hopeful.

As Samsung revealed earlier this week, everyone who pre-ordered Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 Edge will also receive a free Gear VR headset along with a 6-game bundle which amounts to around $150 in value. However, it’s currently unclear whether this promotion will be available outside of the United States. As for their price tags, the cheapest you’ll be able to get them is on a 30-month contract for $23.17 and $26.50 per month from AT&T, though generally speaking, regardless of your choice of a carrier, the Galaxy S7 will set you back a little under 700 bucks in total, while the Galaxy S7 Edge will be about a 100 dollars more expensive. Just keep in mind that shipping notices could mean that a label has been created and that these orders won’t physically ship for a while.
